“Awareness Through Education,
Responsibility Through Involvement”

The society has been in existence since 1974. Our members are of varied levels of experience, always interested, helpful and eager to share their ideas as well as listen to yours. Our monthly meetings are a lively time to discover and discuss our personal horticultural interests.  Presently we have over 350 members.

Our monthly meetings include informative guest speakers on a variety of topics that have to do with the natural world. The meetings take place on the second Wednesday of each month (September through June) at 7:30 PM. We meet in the historic Carriage House on the grounds of the arboretum.

We have a vibrant and extensive program of over 30 educational activities that include garden visits, self drive tours around Long Island, bus tours, horticultural classes and craft workshops that occur on various days throughout the year. Our members as well as professionals in the field teach these classes.

We also have special events. Each spring we have a Plant Sale to benefit the arboretum. You will always find lots of information and advice from gardeners like yourself at the sale. Every Autumn we host a members’ Flower and Harvest Show to exhibit our personal garden efforts and again share how each treasure was coaxed from the earth. There are also guided seasonal walks through the arboretum as well as celebratory parties to mark the beginning of summer and winter.
